The most common defence structure for Covenant worlds, it boasts a huge amount of strike-craft squadrons to hold off enemy fleets until a better-equipped battlegroup can arrive.
The Covenant historically have always had superior ships to whatever faction they chose to engage with. With their enormous superiority they have found that the need for planetary defences has been negligible and as such have never employed them on any worlds.
Things changed though with the beginning of the Human-Covenant war, never before had the Covenant faced a faction that employed covert ops. Spartan teams numerously and effectively found their way into Covenant held space and inflicted massive damage. Realizing that combating the Spartans on the ground was suicide, the Covenant began employing planetary squadron defenses that could take out large strike craft or numerous drop pods, a tactic employed often by the UNSC. These defenses had great effect and forced the UNSC to consider new, less direct approaches to covert op missions.
Weapons and Tactical UsageEdit
As the Covenant have very few options for planetary defence, you are too often forced to use these as any kind of defence for your planets. They are unarmed and lack any abilities, but have 5 strikecraft squadrons to make up for it - enough to put any carrier-cruisers to shame. Purely defensive in nature, you should rely on dedicated fleets or a fully-upgraded Haven Starbase for any real defence of planets.
